How to Rip SACDs with SACD-Ripper Version 0.21
SACD (Super Audio CD) is a high-quality audio format that uses various copy protection measures to prevent unauthorized copying. However, some models of Sony's Playstation 3 (PS3) game console can bypass the copy protection and read SACD discs. This allows you to backup your SACDs to a decrypted ISO file or extract the individual tracks to DSDIFF (DFF) or DSF formats.
In this article, we will show you how to use SACD-Ripper version 0.21, a software that makes use of the PS3's capabilities to rip SACDs. This version is a stable beta that fixes many bugs and adds new features. You will need a SACD-compatible PS3 with a firmware version of 3.55 or lower, a SACD disc, a USB storage device, and a computer with an internet connection.
Step 1: Install a Custom Firmware on Your PS3
Before you can run SACD-Ripper, you need to install a custom firmware on your PS3 that allows patching and the installation of custom applications. There are many tutorials online on how to do this, but be aware that this may void your warranty and potentially brick your console if done incorrectly. Proceed at your own risk.
Step 2: Download and Install SACD-Ripper on Your PS3
Once you have a custom firmware on your PS3, you can download the sacd-ripper.pkg file from https://github.com/sacd-ripper/sacd-ripper/releases. Make sure you download the latest version (0.21 as of this writing). Copy the file to a USB storage device and plug it into your PS3. Then, go to the Game menu on your PS3 and select Install Package Files. Choose the sacd-ripper.pkg file and install it.
Step 3: Rip Your SACD Disc
After installing SACD-Ripper, insert your SACD disc into your PS3 and launch the application from the Game menu. You will see a list of options on how to rip your disc. You can choose to backup the entire disc to an ISO file, or extract the individual tracks to DSDIFF or DSF formats. You can also choose the output folder and filename for your files.
If you want to rip the entire disc to an ISO file, select Backup Disc -> ISO Image File and press X. Then, select your USB storage device as the destination and press X again. The ripping process will start and may take several minutes depending on the size of your disc.
If you want to extract the individual tracks to DSDIFF or DSF formats, select Extract Tracks -> DSDIFF Files or Extract Tracks -> DSF Files and press X. Then, select your USB storage device as the destination and press X again. The ripping process will start and may take longer than ripping to an ISO file.
When the ripping process is done, you will see a message saying \"Done!\". You can then eject your disc and USB storage device from your PS3.
Step 4: Enjoy Your Ripped SACD Files
You can now transfer your ripped SACD files from your USB storage device to your computer or other devices that support DSD playback. You can use software like foobar2000 or JRiver Media Center to play them, or burn them to a DSD disc if you have a compatible burner.
Congratulations! You have successfully ripped your SACD disc with SACD-Ripper version 0.21! 061ffe29dd
