Avatar: The Extended Collector's Edition - A Review
Avatar, the epic sci-fi adventure film by James Cameron, was released in 2009 and became a global phenomenon. The film tells the story of Jake Sully, a disabled former marine who joins a mission to explore and exploit the alien world of Pandora. There, he becomes part of the Na'vi, a native humanoid race that lives in harmony with nature. Jake falls in love with Neytiri, a Na'vi princess, and joins her people in a fight against the human invaders who threaten their existence.
The film was praised for its groundbreaking visual effects, immersive 3D technology, and environmental message. It also received criticism for its clichÃd plot, stereotypical characters, and cultural appropriation. Avatar won three Academy Awards and became the highest-grossing film of all time until it was surpassed by Avengers: Endgame in 2019.
In 2010, Cameron released an extended version of Avatar that added 16 minutes of new footage to the theatrical cut. The extended version included more scenes of Pandora's wildlife, culture, and history, as well as a new opening sequence on Earth and an alternate ending. The extended version was also released on Blu-ray and DVD as part of a special collector's edition that featured more than eight hours of bonus material.
In 2017, a new edition of Avatar was released on 3D Blu-ray that featured a half-side-by-side (Half-SBS) format. This format allows the viewer to watch the film in 3D on any compatible TV or monitor without the need for a special player or glasses. The new edition also included a high-quality audio track with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound that enhanced the immersive experience of the film.
Avatar: The Extended Collector's Edition is a must-have for fans of the film who want to enjoy it in its full glory. The extended version adds more depth and richness to the story and the world of Pandora, while the Half-SBS format and the DTS-HD audio track provide a stunning 3D and sound quality. The special collector's edition also offers a wealth of behind-the-scenes information and insights into the making of Avatar.
The Way of Water is not only a visual spectacle, but also a continuation of the themes and conflicts that Cameron established in the first Avatar. The film explores the relationship between humans and nature, the clash of cultures and values, and the power of love and loyalty. The film also introduces new characters and subplots that expand the scope and complexity of the story. For example, we meet Ronal (Kate Winslet), a free-spirited Na'vi who leads a clan of reef people; Tonowari (Cliff Curtis), the leader of the Metkayina tribe who has a history with Jake; and Spider (Jack Champion), a human teenager who was born on Pandora and sympathizes with the Na'vi.
However, not everything is peaceful and harmonious on Pandora. The film also brings back some familiar antagonists who are determined to exploit the moon's resources and wipe out the Na'vi. Quaritch (Stephen Lang), the ruthless mercenary who was killed by Neytiri in the first film, is somehow resurrected and returns as the main villain. He is joined by General Ardmore (Edie Falco), a cold-hearted military leader who commands a massive spaceship called the Valkyrie; and Scoresby (Brendan Cowell), a ruthless pirate who operates a submarine called the Hammerhead. Together, they pose a formidable threat to Jake and his family, as well as to the entire ecosystem of Pandora.
The Way of Water sets the stage for more adventures and challenges for Jake and Neytiri in the upcoming sequels. Cameron has announced plans for at least three additional Avatar films beyond The Way of Water. Their names are tentatively Avatar: The Seed Bearer, Avatar: The Tulkun Rider, and Avatar: The Quest for Eywa. According to Cameron, each film will have its own story and theme, but will also be part of a larger saga that will conclude with Avatar 5. Cameron has also hinted that some of the sequels will explore other regions and moons of Pandora's solar system, as well as the origins and mysteries of Eywa, the Na'vi's goddess. 061ffe29dd
